Prairie View A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System, is a public land grant university located 45 miles northwest of Houston, Texas, the nation's fourth largest city. It has an enrollment of about 9,000 students and offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines. The University's target service areas for undergraduate, graduate and outreach programs include the Texas Gulf Coast Region; the rapidly growing residential and commercial area known as the Northwest Houston Corridor; and urban Texas centers.
Prairie View A&M University invites applications for two available Dean positions: Dean of the Brailsford College of Arts & Sciences and Dean of the College of Nursing. As the chief administrative officer for the designated College, the Dean is responsible for leadership and oversight of the unit's academic and research enterprise as well as leading the administration, development and direction of academic programs, strategic planning, fundraising, and facility.
ABOUT THE COLLEGES:
Brailsford College of Arts & Sciences: The Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences prepares students to make a difference in the world through academic programs aimed at developing creative thinking, critical analysis, problem solving, and communication skills. The College integrates teaching and research in the context of interdisciplinary learning through individual attention to students, innovative teaching, effective use of technology, and the promotion of economic development, partnerships, and cultural pursuits. A responsive spirit guides the College, balancing access and quality with efficiency, diversity, and a commitment to partnerships with local and global communities. The College consists of eight departments and one division offering courses leading to degrees at the bachelor's and master's level. The College's continued growth in Navy and Army ROTC has produced more than 140 commissioned officers into active military duty. Its highly acclaimed Marching Storm has made appearances at major venues both in the United States and abroad, including the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California and the Macy's Parade in New York. The Concert Chorale recently presented concerts in South America and Poland and was a part of the 105 Voices Chorus, appearing at the Kennedy Center.
College of Nursing: Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing educates professional nurses and creates a positive experience for women and men who choose nursing as their career. The college continues to grow and expand, recently celebrating a century of excellence. The college's nursing graduates contribute extensively to the quality and excellence in nursing and health care delivery throughout Texas, the nation and the world. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the College is highly competitive and offers a variety of programs including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master of Science degrees in Family Nursing Practitioner, Nursing Administration, and Nurse Education; and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). It also offers an RN-BSN program at the Texas A&M University System's RELLIS campus. The College of Nursing's programs are approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and are accredited by both national bodies: Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a terminal degree in a major or related discipline offered by the College. Excellence in teaching and research in higher education. Substantial leadership and administrative experience in higher education. Additionally, the successful candidate must have an academic and research profile that supports an appointment as full professor within the College. Demonstrated knowledge of the best practices in meeting the needs of diverse populations and excellent use of technology, including social media, are preferred.
