The School of Information Sciences seeks to hire multiple outstanding full-time specialized faculty members at the rank of Instructor, Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, or Teaching Assistant Professor to join our dynamic and collegial School.  Preference will be given to the specializations below, but strong candidates in any area will be considered:

  • Cloud Computing and/or Cyberinfrastructure
  • Data visualization

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and teach courses for the Master of Science in Information Science (MS/IM), specifically in the areas of cloud computing and/or cyberinfrastructure and data visualization.
  • Advise MS/IM students on special projects, including independent studies and practicums
  • Contribute other service to the iSchool related to area of expertise
  • Mentor adjunct instructors
  • Other related duties and service as assigned to further the mission of the unit.

 

A PhD degree in Information Sciences, Computer Science, Library and Information Science or related field; or a Master’s degree in Information Sciences, Computer Science, Library and Information Science or related field and at least 5 years professional experience are required. Competitive applicants will show the promise of excellence in classroom teaching and will demonstrate strong topic and teaching knowledge. Candidates with experience in teaching in both traditional and non-traditional environments (e.g., online and hybrid) will be preferred as will candidates who have experience utilizing a variety of teaching tools and technologies. The iSchool faculty is highly interdisciplinary, with backgrounds in information science, library science, informatics, computer science, engineering science, physics, law, psychology, English, medieval studies, philosophy, sociology, statistics, science and technology studies, and history of American civilization. The Urbana-Champaign campus offers a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities including world-renowned research institutes such as the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities (IPRH), the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.
