The Department of Communication in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a non-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer in the General Education Program (GEP). The anticipated start date is August 8, 2020.
Preference: Evidence of effective teaching in a variety of delivery modes (e.g., face-to-face, online, mixed modes, large lecture, small skills classes, as well as experience integrating service-learning and other high-impact practices into their courses.).
The ideal candidate will show evidence of a commitment of teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students, service to the department, university, and profession, and leadership to oversee service assignments for the program. Additionally, we are especially interested in an individual who can contribute through their teaching and service to the diversity and excellence of our academic community and foster an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive. A scholarship of teaching and learning interest is also preferred.
Instructional Duties: Teaching four courses per semester ('4-4') in the general education program (e.g., Fundamentals of Oral communication, Fundamentals of Technical Speaking, Introduction to Communication), as well as other communication courses based on student demand and instructor expertise.
Internal Service: Internal service expectations include appropriate engagement such as student advising, internship supervision, participate in the academic life of the department and school, as well as serve on various committees as appropriate for an instructor or lecturer in the department and school.

Requirements: A master's degree in Communication or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start of employment is required for instructor status. For a lecturer status, a Ph.D. in Communication (or closely related field) is required by the start of employment. Additionally, a minimum of two years of experience teaching Communication, especially Public Speaking as the instructor of record, and evidence of effective teaching in general education communication courses is required.
