Laboratory/Department: Events Coordination

The Events Coordination department coordinates the logistics for events that support the Salk Institute community.

Position Description:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Salk Events, the Event Planner successfully organizes and executes assigned high-profile events that support the Salk Institute community and partner organizations. Acts as contact for Faculty related symposia/conferences and meetings. Work directs team members during assigned events. Oversees day-of logistics and troubleshooting for Salk events and provides proper follow-through.



  • High School Diploma


  • Bachelor's degree



  • Must have 4+ years’ experience as an event planner with a demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute a successful event.
  • Strong, demonstrated organizational skills, often working under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate and interact in a positive and effective manner with diverse clientele.
  • Will require occasional evening and weekends to assist with events.


  • Prior experience in a larger (500+) non-profit organization.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
  • Will require occasional evening and weekends to assist with events.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Institute’s background investigation.
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires constant adjusting focus, grasping, hearing, keying, seeing, sitting, talking, analyzing, communicating, reading, reasoning, writing and working inside.
