Job Description
Assists with providing support for international students and providing services to international students. Actively promotes teamwork and respect for people of diverse backgrounds in the workplace and all interactions with internal and external clientele. Communicates verbally and in writing with customers of diverse backgrounds. Will have access to protected information under FERPA and HIPAA. The scope is broad because it ultimately requires an understanding of federal, agency, and university regulations and procedures as well as international student advising issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a leader on the International Student Services team focused on international student health insurance. Advises international students on various standard issues impacting them, such as academic issues, immigration, and healthcare.
  • Reviews student admission packages to ensure prospective students have proper documents for issuance of Form I-20.
  • Maintains all required documentation and files; monitors and tracks expiration dates of current students' visa authorizations; assists with maintenance of international student records, databases and other advising related administrative tasks, such as preparing memos, drafting correspondence, researching and preparing reports, estimated expenses, federal documents, and applications.
  • Counsels international students on procedures required of the Homeland Security on acquiring and maintaining employment eligibility status; confers with Homeland Security officials regarding reinstatement for University students; approves travel outside the United States for international students.
  • Liaison with U. S. Government Officials.Advises international student organizations, assists with continuous improvement efforts in the office, occasionally travels off campus to fulfill office business responsibilities and assists in the coordination of efforts between various on and off campus entities.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of student programming activities to provide support for international students in becoming acclimated to the university and community such as new student check-in and orientations, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other campus or community entities.
  • Updates the website, assists with development and revision of rules and procedures. Prepares various reports, assists with Passport Caravan and annual International Education Week. Assists with Annual International Festival, Welcome and Appreciation Receptions, Graduate Sash Ceremonies, International Student Orientation, Promote International Opportunities initiated in International Affairs.
  • Assist with management of ISSM software for the International Student Service Database. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years or related experience with program development, academic or related services, or student advising.
