The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba is one of the largest social work academic units in Canada with a proud history of teaching (BSW, MSW, Ph.D.), research, and service spanning 80 years.  We have a faculty with diverse interests and backgrounds, a large PhD program, and opportunities to work with PhD students on exciting research agendas. Our BSW and MSW programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, and we have a ground-breaking MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges. In 2023, our BSW program will be implementing an innovative new curriculum that centres Indigenous, anti-racist, feminist, 2SLGBTQIA+, and critical ways of knowing and practicing social work, across all our campuses including Fort Garry, Inner City, Northern, and Distance Delivery.  The University of Manitoba is also the home of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Archives, the Centre for Human Rights Research, and is the first U15 university to appoint a Vice-President (Indigenous) and an Associate Vice-President (Indigenous).

Our Faculty is strongly committed to knowledge creation, dissemination, and mobilization in social work and beyond.  As a member of the U15, we offer opportunities to build your research profile and produce publications of scholarly work of high academic merit that reach a broad audience in the academy and beyond.  We prioritize innovative and effective teaching, including the use of information technology, blended learning approaches, project-based learning, interdisciplinary learning, and community-based learning. Aligning with our service mission, we have longstanding and multiple connections with Indigenous peoples and communities, with diverse cultural communities, and with a wide range of service and professional organizations in Manitoba and beyond.
