Position Description:

This position is a part of a growing research team focused on understanding the genetic and neural control of animal behavior. Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), incumbent executes experiments and analysis of data outlined by the PI. The main duty is single-cell transcriptome analysis of neurons in the brains of the common fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. Experience in next-generation sequencing, including sample preparation, library synthesis, and bioinformatics analysis, are essential. The incumbent will also need to communicate with various personnel in and outside of the laboratory for the smooth operation of the experiment.



  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field.


  • Master’s degree in bioinformatics.



  • 3 years or more of experience of conducting a project independently or with limited supervision, as a laboratory research assistant or equivalent position.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing next-generation sequencing reactions in Illumina platform. This includes RNA extractions from biological samples, cDNA library constructions, sample loading, confirmation of sequencing data, and quality controls at each step.
  • Demonstrated application of molecular biology knowledge in nucleic acid (RNA and DNA) extraction from biological samples and DNA sequencing for independent troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience either in operating FACS, or in performing bioinformatics analysis on next-generation sequencing data (experience in SEURAT platform is preferred).


  • Demonstrated experience in handling Drosophila melanogaster.
  • Demonstrated genetic knowledge on genetics, especially of Drosophila melanogaster.

Special Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Institute’s background investigation.
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
