Position Status: Full-Time
College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The Academic Advisor serves as frontline contact for undergraduate students for developmental academic advising to drive engagement and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals; builds formative relationships with students by interpreting information concerning course descriptions, program requirements, prerequisites, and registration procedures; and plays vital role in maximizing undergraduate students' persistence to graduation.
Advises students on options to satisfy degree requirements, program changes, and resolution of academic problems.
Monitors student academic progress; refers students to campus resources.
Supports students in establishment of academic and career goals; identifies challenges that may negatively impact student success.
Complies with and enforces student privacy regulations such as FERPA.
Assists with advisement and registration at orientation.
Participates with Advisor II and III on special projects or tasks as assigned/approved by supervisor.
Provides current and prospective students with in-depth information regarding course descriptions, prerequisites, program requirements and registration procedures.
Participates in New Student Orientation: makes presentations; advises and registers students for classes; resolves issues and evaluates courses.
Reviews and performs preliminary evaluation of transcript and provides early advisement to transfer students.
Processes change of major request—includes counseling student on major, course requirements; follows-up to ensure assignment of advisor, major change in Banner.
Counsels students and assists with developing academic schedule and makes referrals to services offered on-campus.
Assists with data collection, data entry, analyses and creation of statistical reports.
Assists with contacting students to schedule appointments; provides notification of meetings and special events.
Audits student degree and academic program records in Banner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment
Salary Range: $38,000
