Vice President, Research and Scientific Director

With an operating budget of $500M, over 4,500 staff and 1,000 physicians, St. Joseph’s provides a wide range of services to patients and residents with approximately 1,000 beds across four main sites and 750,000 outpatient and community visits annually.
The Position
The Vice President, Research and Scientific Director is a key leadership position accountable for excellence in research and for overseeing the integration of research, education/training, and clinical activities that support the strategic directions of St. Joseph’s. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President will be accountable for strengthening St. Joseph’s Research Strategy, aimed at building on the strengths of the organization, increasing integration of research excellence with clinical services, strengthening knowledge translation, and improving patient care. The Vice President, Research and Scientific Director will play a critical role as an Ambassador for St. Joseph’s research and academic endeavors in relation to their academic partners, partner hospitals, and the broader regional, provincial, national, and international landscape.

The successful candidate will bring a distinguished track record of successful research leadership and scholarship, including a strong peer-reviewed publication record and research activities with local, regional, national, and international practitioners and policy makers, and competitive research grant funding. The incumbent will have an MD and/or Ph.D. and be eligible for (or currently have) an academic appointment at Western University. As an outstanding research leader committed to health system performance and innovation, the successful candidate will also be an exceptional relationship developer capable of inspiring teams, peers, and stakeholders. An experienced, inclusive, and visionary leader with a commitment to research excellence, the Vice President, Research and Scientific Director must be able to successfully lead a team to support the creation of structures, processes, and systems that will advance the creation and integration of research, teaching, and clinical activities at St. Joseph’s.
