About MRU

Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University (MRU) grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. MRU has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education, and unique undergraduate programs. MRU is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina, and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the City of Calgary. About the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies

The Faculty of Business and Communications Studies has a student body of approximately 3400 students and is composed of the Bissett School of Business and the School of Communication Studies. The School of Business hosts four departments: General Management & Human Resources, Accounting & Finance, International Business & Supply Chain Management, and Entrepreneurship, Marketing & Social Innovation. The School of Communication Studies consists of three departments: Public Relations, Information Design, and Broadcast Media Studies and Journalism.

The Bissett School of Business is an accredited member of EFMD, a global, non-profit, membership-driven organization dedicated to management development.

About the Department of International Business & Supply Chain Management

The Department of International Business and Supply Chain Management offers BBA majors in Supply Chain Management and International Business. The supply chain major contains 10 core courses, is highly integrated with our CN Supply Chain Data Analytics Lab and offers a co-op education opportunity. The program is deeply rooted in applied learning, accredited by Supply Chain Canada (SCC) and heavily involved with highly regarded networks within both industry and academic communities.

About the Role

The Department of International Business & Supply Chain Management in the Bissett School of Business at MRU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Supply Chain Management at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on January  01, 2024. This position will be hired into the Teaching-Service (TS) work pattern, which has a focus on teaching (the equivalent of eight classes per academic year), as well as providing service to the faculty and university. Preference will be given to candidates with a history of applied experience and active industry networks  within the industry.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of our Supply Chain team, and can expect to meaningfully contribute to departmental priorities and activities. At MRU, as our industry connections are an important and integral part of our programs, the successful candidate will be required to actively liaise with industry partners and professional associations on behalf of the Department and the Bissett School of Business.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a strong industry-facing alignment in their profile –demonstrating a depth of active industry connections and experience –and hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in supply chain management or closely related field.  A PhD (completed or nearing completion) in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or another closely related field, will be desirable but is not essential. While previous experience in teaching and mentoring at the post secondary level is preferred, experience in a teaching role (such as training and workshop facilitation) in the field of supply chain management will be considered.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have the following attributes:

• Strong professional/industry experience and connections

• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills

• A willingness to mentor and coach students with activities including student competitions, Supply Chain Student Association activities, Honours thesis advising, student led applied research, or other similar student supporting/mentoring, yet industry-facing activities
