Opportunities and Challenges

The Vice-President, Centre Southwest (VP-CSW) is the senior executive directly responsible for the overall management of all Centre Southwest (CSW) programs and services. This position provides strategic leadership in delivering education, post-secondary education, vocational training, continuing education, and employability, immigration and apprenticeship programs and services for the CSW region. They are also responsible for initiating and supporting new initiatives and ensuring the implementation of special projects through strategic alliances, partnerships and other means to make the College the primary provider of education and training services to the CSW community.

Duties and Responsibilities

The VP-CSW reports to the President of the College. As a member of the College's executive team, the VP-CSW makes resource management decisions and participates in a wide range of strategic and operational decisions. They are responsible for managing the human, financial and physical resources under their purview. Programs and services in the CSW region can be accessed from the Toronto and Windsor campuses, as well as sites in Barrie, Hamilton, London, Sarnia, Chatham, Mississauga, Welland and Kitchener. As a senior manager, the VP-CSW is a member of the executive team, participates in the overall management of the College and provides leadership and direction to help develop and systematically implement immigration and employment programs and services. 

Strategic leadership in the CSW

  • Help strategically position the College in the Centre Southwest region
  • Develop new strategic alliances with community colleges in the CSW, as well as government and community partners, to expand program and service offerings
  • Negotiate joint agreements with third parties or funding agencies for new initiatives
  • Review existing programs on an ongoing basis and develop new programs
  • Assume broader responsibility for representing the College locally, provincially and nationally
  • Build constructive relationships with representatives of ethnocultural and immigrant communities
  • Contribute significantly to the continued growth and financial viability of the College
  • Serve on various boards and advisory committees

Management, planning and organization

  • Contribute to the development of the strategic plan and establish goals and objectives for the CSW
  • Provide resource management primarily for the CSW and participate in other strategic and operational decisions
  • Ensure that the executive team is aware of issues related to the CSW region
  • Contribute to the implementation of the College's mission and vision
  • Play a leadership role in the development of the CSW
  • Lead the annual budget planning process for the CSW
  • Establish positive ongoing relationships with appropriate community, industry and business representatives and government bodies
  • Ensure effective consultation and communication with senior officials

Educational leadership and direction of programs and services

  • Provide educational and administrative leadership to administrators, faculty and support staff
  • Develop and implement performance indicators and systematically manage immigration programs and services and employment services systems transformation
  • Connect with CSW education partners
  • Establish partnerships with business and community groups
  • Oversee the quality of programs and services
  • Evaluate programming on an ongoing basis
  • Manage the human, financial and material resources under your authority
  • Organize and implement a profitability plan for the CSW

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Competency Profile

  • Master's degree in education, business or a field relevant to the position
  • An appreciation for the Centre Southwest and issues affecting education, training, immigration and employability
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and support for EDI initiatives
  • Familiarity with the educational structure of community colleges
  • Understanding of planning, marketing, and delivery of programs and services in an educational setting
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and matrix organizations
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Skills in promoting and actively participating in teamwork, strong sense of collaboration
  • At least ten years of relevant experience in a leadership position, ideally in the education sector
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment
  • Management ability, and positive and inspirational leadership
  • Ability to objectively observe, coach and guide others
  • Ability to be innovative and creative
  • Proven experience leading and implementing change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
