Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Full Salary Range
Minimum: $10,000.00
Maximum $26,000.00

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $15,000.00
Maximum: $20,000.00

Job Summary
1. Responsible for the planning, development, and evaluation of the family medicine curriculum including topics, courses, and methods of instruction which relate to family medicine. 2. Promotes, by example and precepting, a general atmosphere of respect for knowledge, thought, and inquiry in family medicine within the University. 3. Contributes to the planning, development, and evaluation of courses and academic programs within the college and university. 4. Plans and manages the departmental budget, allocating funds appropriately to efficiently utilize resources. Project future departmental budgetary needs (operational and personnel) and provide proposals with documentation during the budget planning cycle. 5. Evaluates departmental faculty and staff members according to their job descriptions and consistent with departmental, college, and university standards. 6. Provides vision and leadership in departmental strategic planning taking into consideration input by the departmental faculty, the college administration, outside stakeholders, and national benchmarks.

Able and willing to practice the full scope of family medicine as currently defined by WesternU. 2. Ability to effectively communicate with others, in person, in writing and utilizing a telephone. Ability to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff and students.

3. Must possess strong organizational, management and administrative abilities. 4. Be committed to a career in academic medicine in the field of osteopathic family practice.

Required Qualifications
Education: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Current AOA or ABMS board certification in Family Medicine/Family Practice. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting. Licensure: Unrestricted California licensure (or eligibility for California licensure). Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate.

Essential Job Functions:

- Responsible to maintain intellectual integrity and to strive for academic excellence in teaching.
 
- Integrates family medicine and its principles into the appropriate segments of the four-year academic curriculum at COMP.
 
- Provides leadership and collaboration to foster an integrated approach to osteopathic medical education between COMP’s academic departments.
 
- Supports faculty development within the college and department.
 
- Coordinates and develops an integrated approach to osteopathic medical education between all of the clinicians on WesternU’s campus.
 
- Performs and coordinates the on-site evaluation of family practice rotations (clerkships) and submits written evaluation reports to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.
 
- Develops and coordinates the curriculum for OMS III and IV students
 
- Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner so as to bring credit to the key role model position in family medicine for our medical and students.
 
- Serves as faculty lead for the Family Medicine core and elective rotations.  Continues to develop and refine the goals and objectives for family medicine rotations for the OMS III and OMS IV students.
 
- Appoints appropriate committees to function within the Department of Family Medicine and Chair departmental meetings.
 
- Clinical teaching and precepting of students.
 
- Development of federal/state grants for the advancement of the Department of Family Medicine and its educational role at COMP.
 
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned by the Dean of Osteopathic Medicine.

- Provides service to the University and Community as needed or requested.
 
- Participates in discussions and works with other departmental chairs and discipline leaders at WesternU.
 
- Promotes and participates in a working relationship among the Chairs of Family Medicine at all the osteopathic colleges and other medical schools in California.
 
- Participates in professional organizations to represent WesternU and its Department of Family Medicine (i.e., ACOFP, STFM, etc.).
