The Department of Physiology in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University invites applications for a tenure track position at an open rank faculty position. Successful candidates are expected to establish vigorous independent programs of extramurally funded research to complement the research strengths and goals of the department and the University.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and growing department focusing on various research questions of cellular signaling, neural regulation and hormonal control in a broad range of whole animal, organ and cellular model systems of cardiovascular, endocrine and renal disease. The successful candidate will receive a competitive start-up package and will be assigned lab and office space in state-of-the-art research facilities. There is a strong institutional commitment to core facilities, graduate programs, and an interdisciplinary approach that promotes collaborations both within and across departmental lines.
All candidates must possess independent extramural funding and demonstrate the potential for its continuation.
Applicants are expected to have teaching experience and be committed to teaching students in the Department of Physiology, Medical College and The Graduate School.
Candidates will be reviewed by a search committee composed of members of the Department of Physiology.
Responsibilities
Research - 70%
Establish vigorous independent research programs that are extramurally funded to complement the research strengths and goals of the department and the university. Salary support goal of 50% or more of total salary to be funded by extramural funds.
Teaching - 20%
Teach in the MS in Physiology Program, School of Medicine, and/or The Graduate School and mentor graduate and medical students.
Service - 10%
Provide national, local, and institutional service.
Required Qualifications
A PhD in biomedical sciences, or equivalent doctoral degree, with postdoctoral training is required. Applicants also are expected to have teaching experience and be committed to teaching students in the Medical College and Graduate School.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
The Department of Physiology, in the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University has two primary missions: develop outstanding research programs and provide excellence in education. Our federally-funded scientists study some of the nation's top killers like cardiovascular disease and hypertension, and train independent, creative, productive scholars and PhD graduates, who publish in top tier journals and who are competitive for positions wherever they choose to go. The department offers programs leading to the MS and PhD degree. A combined MD/PhD or DMD/PhD degree program is available for students who obtain prior or concurrent admission to the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) or the Dental College of Georgia. In all programs, extensive experience in the philosophy and performance of basic and biomedical research is stressed. By virtue of their interdisciplinary training, the department's graduates compete successfully for positions in medical schools, universities, government and industry.
