The Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for a non-tenure track Associate Professor of Practice position with primary teaching responsibilities in the MSW program. We seek candidates who are licensed practitioners with substantial clinical social work experience to teach across our curriculum. Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following practice areas are especially encouraged to apply: children, military social work, complex trauma, interdisciplinary social work, and evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, narrative and motivational interviewing.

This position will be located on our campus in Boston, MA with in-person teaching obligations. In addition to teaching, candidates will be required to contribute to curriculum development, maintain deep connections to the social work practice community, engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities, and participate in service to the SSW, College, University, and social work profession. This position is a full-time, ten-month academic appointment, with a start date of July 1, 2023 or before, subject to the selected candidate's availability.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Classroom teaching in the MSW program and other programs as needed; Teaching assignments will include required courses and electives
  • Participate in curricular development and competency assessment activities, as appropriate
  • Serve as a course manager or certificate coordinator, as appropriate
  • Participate in the MSW program, School, College and University committees and projects as elected or appointed
  • Maintain currency as a social work practitioner through engagement in clinical area of specialty
  • Engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities
  • Other projects and activities as assigned


Required Qualifications
  • MSW from a CSWE accredited institution
  • Independent clinical licensure
  • Extensive experience as a clinical social worker in a variety of settings is required; minimum 5 years post MSW practice experience
  • Record of teaching excellence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • DSW or PhD in Social Work or closely related field preferred
  • Prior experience teaching graduate students
  • Experience working with collaborative teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google docs; willingness to learn new tools and software is required
  • Solid understanding for adapting technology in an educational context
  • Demonstrated record of participation in professional development and/or scholarly activities
