Financial Specialist III


Location: Off Campus Location - Moscow

Pay Range: $23.05 per hour or higher depending on education and experience

Position Summary:
Responsible for providing complex technical support for daily financial operations by performing a variety of tasks following policies and procedures. In addition to processing a variety of financial transactions and maintaining records, the position compiles data and generates routine and ad hoc financial reports.

Duties may include:

  • Purchasing identified goods and services
  • Submitting invoices and receipts for payment
  • Accepting and recording payments
  • Reconciling purchasing card statements
  • Processing travel claims and reimbursements
  • Tracking transactions through completion in the centralized financial system
  • Filing and maintaining unit-level finance documents
  • Originating personnel actions and processing corrections to pay in the centralized financial system
  • Developing, compiling, and summarizing data for routine reports and ad hoc financial management reports
  • Researching and correcting discrepancies or errors
  • Providing assistance to departments on questions related to invoices, receipts, financial reports and other transactions
  • Researching, analyzing, and making recommendations for management decision making
  • Serving as departmental grant administrator, assisting principal investigator with pre- and post-award financial activities. May participate in budget development and compilation and submission of proposals and project reports
  • Other duties as assigned



Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

 

  • Three years providing financial processing support within an electronic finance system
  • Using spreadsheet software to compile, summarize, analyze, and report on financial data
  • Interpreting and applying financial stewardship policies, procedures, rules and regulations



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business and Accounting;
  • Four or more years of work-related experience;
  • Good knowledge of: accounting theory, principles, and practices; accepted bookkeeping procedures and practices; and financial records management;
  • Good knowledge of: office support functions including word processing, spreadsheets, filing, composing a variety of business documents, and researching, compiling and summarizing data for reports;
  • Experience with: identifying, researching, and correcting errors in financial transactions; making financial projections; and researching and compiling financial information and preparing summaries and reports;
  • Demonstrated ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing; manage a high volume of work in an organized, transparent, and timely manner; independently solve problems/perform liaison activities in a work setting; and learn new procedures, policies, computer tasks and skills with minimal training;
  • Experience with University of Idaho programs, financial procedures and systems including: Banner, Argos, Electronic Personnel Action Forms (EPAF), VandalWeb administrative applications;
  • Knowledge of: University of Idaho, State of Idaho and federal policies and practices related to grants management;
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Excel worksheets and the use of pivot tables;
  • Experience with supervising and managing staff and student trainees inputting expenditures and processing related financial documents.
