Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity

By joining the team that is designing and implementing the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. This position will be working as a part of an extremely dynamic team of professionals supporting all aspects of the school and the creation of the infrastructure, process, and procedures for the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. The team works from an interdependent model of practice and we are looking for someone who thrives in a highly challenging role within a high functioning team-based environment.

The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine will offer more than a conventional medical education. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EI&D), as the Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity, you will develop strategy, implementation, and oversight of EI&D programs which align with the mission, vision, and values of the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. You will provide supervision and oversight of staff ensuring that the identified goals and objectives of the EI&D component of the school are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, standards of quality, and customer service. In addition, you will assess potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse student body.


Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications Include:

  • At least five years of experience in the design and successful execution of diversity strategies and programs in a large complex organization and diversity product development and management
  • At least five years of experience in collaboration and negotiation
  • A bachelor’s degree in a health care field, business administration, human resources management, industrial/organizational psychology, law, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. Master’s degree, PhD, or MD is preferred.
  • Experience developing Affirmative Action Plans preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable laws
  • A broad and deep knowledge of diversity involving strategy implementation, designing and implementing workforce inclusion strategies
  • Experience auditing Affirmative Action Plans, and leveraging cultural knowledge and expertise working with labor preferred
  • Proven cultural competency expertise
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in the various components of diversity management
  • Knowledge of training, conflict resolution, and mediation methods
  • Extensive experience in collaboration and negotiation
  • Excellent oral communication, public speaking, and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills so that you can work effectively with students, tutors, professional staff, faculty, course directors, administrative personnel, and vendors
  • Excellent crisis management skills, analytical skills, time management skills, be detailed oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strategic thinking and proven management, initiative development, and implementation skills
  • Excellent consulting, management, and advocacy skills
  • Skill in the use of computers and appropriate software applications
  • The ability to effectively facilitate issues of multiculturalism and diversity
  • The demonstrable ability to build partnerships with a systems orientation
  • The ability to effectively communicate and influence senior leaders
  • The ability to organize and teach study groups and workshops to help students become more effective learners and test takers
  • The ability to establish and meet short term, mid-range, and long-range goals and objectives with minimal direction
  • Proven ability to effectively hire, train, and supervise staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling wok assignments
  • The ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures, as applicable
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekend days
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Labor/Management Partnership environment preferred
