Data Services Librarian
Tenure-Track Position
The Data Services Librarian will work under the general direction of the Associate University Librarian: Content Management and Discovery. Situated in the Library, the incumbent will be expected to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team of librarians and support staff to provide innovative data support services at the University of Regina. The Data Services Librarian will be responsible for providing training sessions on data discovery, analysis and management, and presenting to groups across campus about the Library’s data services. They will be up-to-date on trends in open data, statistical and geospatial analysis, GIS, data visualisation and research data management, and will have hands-on experience or a willingness to learn software and techniques in support of this work.
The Data Services Librarian will be the primary liaison to Geography and Environmental Studies and may have other subject liaison responsibilities yet to be determined. This position will conduct advanced reference and research consultations with students and faculty; collaborate with other units on-campus to coordinate data services and advance research data management. They will serve as the U of R’s main contact for data organizations (e.g. Regina Research Data Centre, ICPSR, DLI, Portage, Scholars Portal).
Requirements:
An ALA-accredited or recognized degree in Information/Library Science. Experience in, or a demonstrated potential for, supporting researchers with data services, including data discovery, statistical and geospatial data analysis and visualization, and research data management.
Experience with two or more common software packages used in statistical data analysis, GIS, and data visualization.
An understanding of the regional and national research data management landscape in Canada, including relevant policies, repositories and tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
