Job Description

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a Definite Term Lecturer position. The initial appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two or three years. During the course of this definite term appointment, promotion into a Continuing Lecturer position may be considered. The expected start date is July 1, 2020.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (or equivalent) and are strongly preferred to have experience teaching Earth Sciences at the University level.

Demonstrated excellence in Geoscience training within both the classroom and laboratory environments is advantageous. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate Earth Sciences education and excellent organization and communication skills.

The applicants with training skills in introductory level Earth Sciences courses including Hydrology and GIS are specifically being sought for this position. We are particularly interested in candidates who have the potential to take a lead role in mentoring, advising and engaging with undergraduate students, including supervision of BSc honors theses and who have a keen interest in aspects of experiential learning and on-line course development.

Application Details

This position will normally have a teaching load of six one-term courses per year and administrative duties as determined by the Chair. The starting salary range is $75,000 to $85,000 and will be commensurate with experience; negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
