Position Title: Assistant Professor of Social Work Department Health Professions Appointment 9 Months Tenure Status Tenure Track FLSA Exempt Job Summary
Missouri Western State University's College of Science and Health and the Social Work Program invites applications for tenure-track position in Social Work beginning August 2023. Successful candidates for this Assistant Professor position should be able to contribute to this growing CSWE-accredited program through undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service. Candidates are required to hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, and to have earned a terminal degree in Social Work or a related field (ABD considered). Ideal candidates hold current state LSW or LCSW licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri.
Essential Job Duties
Missouri Western currently offers a Bachelors in Social Work (BSW), and in January of 2023 is approved to offer a Masters in Social Work (MSW). As the program grows, we seek student-centered colleagues committed to the field, and who value partnerships and service to the region and community.

Duties for candidates for tenure-track positions include performance of activities corresponding with the teaching, scholarship, and service expectations for the department and college. We seek colleagues with disciplinary expertise and professional experience, evidence of exceptional teaching, and the potential for scholarly productivity and collaboration with the region and community.

Successful candidates will:
  • Demonstrate disciplinary and professional expertise, and evidence of exceptional and innovative teaching and advising with diverse undergraduate or adult learners (in-person and online).
  • Exhibit existing and potential scholarly productivity as well as the desire to collaborate with colleagues, the region, and community.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve on department committees, attend department meetings, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Work or closely related field
  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Experience teaching undergraduate or adult learners
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hold current state LSW or LCSW licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri.
  • Experience with and knowledge of CSWE accreditation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate disciplinary expertise and professional experience, evidence of exceptional teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level (in-person and online), and the potential for scholarly productivity and collaboration with the region and community.
  • Primary teaching responsibilities include foundational and clinical practice courses such as Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Practice, Family and Child Welfare, Mental Health and Social Work, and Substance Use and Disorders. Faculty may teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and are expected to supervise and teach Practicum students when needed.
  • As Missouri's designated applied learning institution, we seek a candidate who is both collaborative and service oriented, and who demonstrates a strong commitment to building real-world active-learning environments.

 

Physical Demands Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
