Job Description

For over 100 years, Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles has been a national leader in art and design education. The College’s mission is to educate a diverse community of students to become highly skilled, well-informed, and responsible professionals—empowering them to shape the world. The Social Media Coordinator role in the Communications and Marketing Department will create social and digital storytelling that reflects the dynamic work of our students, faculty, and alumni, as well as the programming and events of various departments. This person will be responsible for managing all official Otis College social media channels, and will assist the Editorial Director in ideating, planning, and implementing social media strategies and coverage. This is a great opportunity for someone who is adept at leveraging digital platforms to create engaging content, and who is a social media early adopter who can monitor social trends and stay abreast of new social platforms and best practices. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Editorial Director.

Essential Duties Summary

• Creates and manages monthly social media calendar, and handles day-to-day content curation and creation on all Otis College social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram/IGTV, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Giphy, and other platforms as they are adopted, in coordination with the overarching editorial calendar.
• Engages with Otis College students, alumni, faculty, and staff to surface news and stories.
• Provides social media coverage for events and public programs.
• Grows followers on social media and helps drive traffic to the website.
• Monitors the Otis College brand in the digital space and responds to direct messages from social media followers as warranted.
• Researches social media analytics to better understand and engage with internal and external communities.
• Composes regular reports on the Otis College social media networks and their growth. Provides strategic editorial recommendations as needed.
• Writes and reviews search engine-optimized text for short news posts on the website.
• Manages the Events Calendar, and event submissions from faculty and staff.
• Assists with THIS WEEK, a weekly email newsletter sent to students, faculty, and staff.
• Assists in the creation and distribution of Otis College digital marketing collateral and ads on social media.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of social media experience is required.
• Fluent in all social media networks, with a strong interest in new communication technologies.
• Must have an understanding of search engine optimization and internet marketing best practices.
• Ability to develop and execute a variety of content across social media and online platforms, including text, photos, graphics, and video. Previous experience writing, copy editing, and video editing is a plus.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and a basic understanding of Content Management Systems (Drupal in particular), XHTML, CSS, and web design.
• Knowledge of social media advertising platforms on Facebook and Google.
• Accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment with strong time management and organizational skills, as well as a keen attention to detail.
• Ability and willingness to learn and adapt quickly.
• Self-motivated and able to establish priorities and effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified timeframes.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently, in a team environment, and across departments.
• Some evenings and/or weekend hours are required.
