The Department of Art at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member with an emphasis in Interaction/Experience Design to work with a diverse population of students and peers.

The successful candidate will teach BA, BFA, MA, and MFA level courses and prepare CSUN students for in-demand employment opportunities in communication design. The committee encourages qualified candidates who are forward-thinking collaborators with an enthusiasm for working with students to apply.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty/area meetings, and service to the department, college, university, and community.


Responsibilities upon appointment:

Teaching full-time: three classes per semester.

  • Maintaining a professional practice. Remaining up to date on new developments in the relevant field, and dissemination of professional peer reviewed work is required for retention.
  • Advising students about their professional goals with a strong focus on academic advisement.


Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

MFA or post-baccalaureate experience, training, and expertise at least equivalent to those required for the Master of Fine Arts degree is required.  A broad, demonstrable professional record of creative achievement in Graphic Design and/or Interaction/Experience Design.  Demonstrated skills in design thinking, design sprints, innovations in technology, concept development, and creative problem solving/techniques current to the profession.  At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College/ university-level teaching experience or professional related teaching experience.
  • Experience with Brand Design and customer/user service.
  • A working knowledge of the start-up environment.
  • Experience with online learning models and organizational tools
