The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin seeks applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in Painting and Drawing with an anticipated start date of Fall 2020.
The Studio Art Division in the Department of Art and Art History comprises a highly productive and distinguished faculty, a dynamic team of visiting instructors, and a skilled and dedicated staff. Studio Art is organized around areas of study in Painting & Drawing, Sculpture & Extended Media, Photography and Media, Print, and Transmedia (video/performance/digital media). The Studio Art program is committed to the development of contemporary artists who are not only proficient makers, but also curious and inquisitive observers, critical thinkers, and resourceful self-initiators. Students in the Studio Art program benefit from small class sizes and well-equipped facilities, the numerous offerings of a tier one research university, and active relationships with the larger arts communities in Austin and beyond. Applicants must have an active national and/or international exhibition record or comparable achievements in their area of expertise. An MFA or equivalent is required, and prior teaching experience is preferred. Additionally, the department seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Teaching will be at all levels, from the first-year, core curriculum, to graduate courses with students from all media areas. Service is expected in the form of governance, curricular development, and other committee work that is critical to the mission of the Studio Division, Department, College, and University. As a tier one, research institution, The University of Texas at Austin expects this faculty member to actively pursue original research that extends their discipline through publication, exhibition, performance, or other venues central to the field. Salary is commensurate with experience.
