Job Description

Florida State University seeks an experienced and accomplished Assistant Professor of Lighting Design for 9 month tenure track position beginning 2020-2021 academic year.

The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include-

  • Work with faculty to develop new Integrated Design Program(s).
  • Recruit Graduate students annually.
  • Teach Graduate lighting design/technology and projection design. (additional subjects possible)
  • Possibly design lighting and projections for FSU School of Theatre productions.
  • Serve on FSU School of Theatre committees as assigned.
  • Continue to work on professional development with outside activities.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MFA in Theatre Design or a related field or significant professional experience in lighting and projection design; and have 3 years teaching experience. Additional qualifications include-

  • Significant experience working with large-scale musicals and plays.
  • Significant demonstrated experience with projection design and media systems and related software.
  • Significant demonstrated experience with DMX and computer-controlled lighting systems, (ETC-Ion console, intelligent lighting instruments, hazers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in accurately creating and interpreting lighting drawings.
  • Extensive proven experience with AutoCAD/VectorWorks for producing lighting drawings and related software.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally implement designs, adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated dedication to the teacher/artist model.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Evidence of excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Member of United Scenic Artists #829.
  • Highly desirable that the applicant be "multiple category".  SD/LD, LD/Projection Design, etc.
