Job Description

The Department of Technology Leadership and Communication (TLC) in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership who is a generalist in the field of leadership. Building on existing strengths in teaching, research and service in STEM contexts, the TLC department is searching for faculty with expertise in the fields of human and leadership development, organizational development, project management, and/or intercultural/international leadership. Responsibilities for this tenure-track position include: teaching and advising diverse undergraduate and graduate students; establishing and sustaining an externally funded research program; producing peer-reviewed publications; active participation in the professional community through research and professional service; and service to the department, school, and campus. The position will begin in August of 2020.

Responsibilities

  • Develop ongoing research agenda in discipline-based educational research (DBER), and publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Coordinate undergraduate and graduate certificate programs
  • Coordinate and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in a variety of disciplinary areas
  • Serve as chair and/or committee member on graduate directed projects and/or theses committees
  • Serve the discipline, department, school, campus, local community, and state of Indiana
  • Serve as graduate and undergraduate student advisor and mentor

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required

  • Ph.D., or other doctorate in Organizational Leadership, Human Resource Development, Human Resource Management, Global/International Studies, Technical Communication, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business, or a related field completed by August 1, 2020
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion topics such as identity, power and privilege, intergroup dynamics, and social justice
  • A relevant research agenda with evidence of publications in refereed journals and/or refereed conferences
  • Evidence of successful teaching and assessment of student learning in undergraduate and/or graduate courses
  • Evidence of successful curriculum development and program assessment at the department, school, or campus level
  • Evidence of service to the profession
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Certification to work in the United States

Desired

Expertise/experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human resource development and/or human resource management; preferably HRCI certification as PHR, SPHR, or GPHR, and/or SHRM certification as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
  • Project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) and PMI certification as PMP, PMI-PBA, PgMP, CAPM, and/or PMI-SP
  • Organizational leadership and change in a global/international work place context
  • Technical Communication including human-centered design and usability, digital/social/multi-media usage, agile environments, and content management
  • Service as a PI or Co-PI on national or state funded grants and contracts
  • Evidence of successful teaching with technology and development of online and/or hybrid courses
