Faculty Position
Geriatrics

The Division of Geriatrics of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position in geriatric medicine. Applications for positions at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor will be considered and are available immediately. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.

The Division of Geriatrics is a new division within the medical school, jointly affiliated with both the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Medicine. The faculty member will provide geriatric clinical services, participate in resident and student education, and engage in other scholarly activities. The successful candidate will also work to grow the clinical services of the division.

Southwest Michigan, like most of the United States, is in need of additional geriatricians. Our community partners Bronson Methodist Hospital, Ascension Borgess Hospital, and Senior Care Partners are actively growing their geriatric services; the members of the Division will practice at these clinical sites.

Applicants should be highly motivated to pursue a career in academic geriatrics and ideally have experience in teaching, clinical research, and research project development. Applicants must have a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics and be licensed in the State of Michigan or have the ability to aquire a Michigan license.


As a new Division of Geriatrics in a newer medical school, WMed offers an exciting environment to pursue an academic career in geriatrics and help guide the course for growing the program. WMed has a large, state-of-the-art Simulation Center, extensive resources to support clinical research, and abundant opportunities for teaching students and residents, and developing research careers.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Licensure to practice medicine in Michigan.
  • Board certified or eligibility for board certification.

As one of the newer US medical schools, WMed is an exciting environment to pursue an academic career. The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching hospitals, Ascension Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.

Kalamazoo is a wonderful and vibrant city, located midway between Chicago and Detroit.
