Probationary Tenure-Track Appointment: Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Theatre (Acting Studies)

The Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA) at Dalhousie University invites applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Theatre commencing July 1, 2020. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

Dalhousie University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada, located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, home to 13 Mi’kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted African Canadian community, and an increasingly diverse population. The Fountain School of Performing Arts is the only multi-disciplinary performing arts school in the region, offering collaborative learning opportunities in Music, Theatre, Costume Studies, and Film Studies programs. FSPA is expanding our facilities, with a 37000 square foot wing to our building currently under construction.

The successful candidate for this position will: teach Acting to students in the first through final years of an undergraduate program; direct one stage production or support a devised creation project each year; and contribute to long-range planning of curriculum and the production season. Capacity to teach in other areas of the FSPA will be considered an asset.

The qualifications required are MA, MFA, or equivalent degree plus substantial professional theatre experience, with a particular emphasis on acting, devised creation and directing. Evidence of effective teaching at a post-secondary level is required.
