Job Description

The Engineering Technology department at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for an innovative leader to chair the department. It currently has 17 faculty members and approximately 650 students. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology with three ETAC/ABET accredited concentrations: Computer, Electro-Mechanical, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. The newly established Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronics Engineering currently has over 350 students and is accredited by EAC/ABET. The department also offers a Master of Science degree in the following concentrations: Engineering Technology, Engineering Management, as well as Occupational Health and Safety. The ET department has very strong ties with the fast growing and innovative industry in Middle Tennessee, which is represented by an active Industrial Advisory Board that consists of various globally recognized companies.

Start date for the position is August 1, 2020, and expedited tenure upon appointment is possible. Applicants must have an established record of publication and external funding and be eligible to meet the criteria for the rank of either Associate Professor or Professor.

Primary responsibilities include strong departmental leadership, seeking and maintaining appropriate accreditation of the existing programs, establishing relationships with local/regional industries, seeking internal and external funding resources, improving the current graduate program, articulation with regional colleges and universities, establishing and improving labs, recruiting quality students and faculty, mentoring junior faculty members, providing leadership in curriculum development, managing departmental course offerings and staffing, preparing and administering departmental budgets, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and research, student advising, development of sponsored research, peer-reviewed publications, and public service.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate in Engineering and have a strong record in teaching and research.
  • Preference is given to candidates with degree in electrical or mechanical engineering. Administrative experience is strongly preferred. Industrial experience is also desired.
