Job Description

Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications and nominations a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) of the College of Engineering.

Appointments will be made at the Assistant Professor level in Mechanical Engineering, though applicants with exceptional qualifications may be considered at other ranks. Research expectations include the ability to work independently, and to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations, both within and outside LSU, sustain an innovative, nationally recognized and externally funded research program, and growing relationships with industry. Teaching expectations include a commitment to effective instruction and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervision of student research.

Successful applicants will have unique opportunities at LSU through the National Center for Advanced Manufacturing (NCAM), the NSF-funded Consortium for Innovation in Manufacturing and Materials (CIMM), and the Center for Computation and Technology (CCT).

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Job Requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with a Ph.D. in Engineering or related scientific field (ABD candidates will be considered so long as degree requirements are met prior to August, 2020); at least four years of experience, including graduate study, and excellent verbal and writing skills. Applicants with background in any area of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply, and especially so in the following target areas.

Applicants with expertise and background in modern Computational Mechanics as related to manufacturing and materials fundamentals and applications are encouraged to apply. An emphasis on multi-scale modeling and simulation relevant to manufacturing and materials areas, especially in the context of the aerospace, energy or automotive sectors, is highly desirable, as is familiarity with Integrated Computational Materials Engineering methods.
