The University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS), Department of Health Promotion and Policy invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure track position at the rank of Full or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will join the faculty in the Community Health Education program (http://www.umass.edu/sphhs/community-health-education) within the department.
Department, School, University and Community: The University of Massachusetts Amherst is located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. The area is home to the Five Colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst), with many opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration. The region boasts a rural setting with easy access to Boston, Hartford and New York City. The Department of Health Promotion and Policy is made up of two programs: Health Policy and Management, and Community Health Education. The department is in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS), which also houses departments of Environmental Health Sciences, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Nutrition, Kinesiology and Communication Disorders. Job Summary: We are seeking candidates with interest and experience in research defined broadly within the field of Community Health Education. Duties of the position include an active program of research, teaching, professional and community service and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates must possess strong research skills with a demonstrated track record of receiving research funding, preferably from federal funding agencies. Preference will be given to candidates whose research/teaching interests focus on any or all of the following: 1) substance abuse/addiction, 2) mental health, 3) global health, 4) health services research, and/or 5) uses a mixed methods approach.
Candidates for the position must meet the following requirements:
• PhD in Public Health or equivalent, with an emphasis in Community Health Education.
• Experience and qualifications appropriate to an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
• Evidence of ability to conduct independent and collaborative research and to generate extramural funds, including federal funding for research and institutional development.
• Strong record of published peer-reviewed articles.
• Evidence of strength in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Community Health Education, Public Health, and/or related field.
• Evidence of ability to mentor junior faculty, and postdoctoral fellows and/or graduate students.
