Tenure -Track Assistant Professor in Immunology and Traumatic Brain Injury in Penn Neurosurgery

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Dec 19, 2022
Deadline: Dec 19, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of immunology and traumatic brain injury (TBI), developing and implementing immunoengineering cell therapies to treat and diagnose nervous system injury and disease. The candidate should have experience using large-animal models, such as swine, to examine the neuroimmunological sequelae of TBI, especially the infiltration of peripheral immune cells to injured brain tissue, resulting in secondary injury. An interest in developing relevant therapies (such as the use of immune modulators to direct peripheral immune cells towards neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory phenotypes) is also desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include the opportunity to mentor exceptional graduate and medical trainees with interests in neuroscience, bioengineering, and related fields.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include developing an independent, externally funded research program and collaborating with clinicians, scientists, and clinician-scientists in Penn Neurosurgery. The position will include an appointment to Penn's Center for Brain Injury and Repair (CBIR), a world leader in improving TBI patient care, outcomes and quality of life through collaborative research.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
