The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is charged with conducting high-impact original biomedical research and translating the findings to clinical applications, and in educating future physicians and researchers. Our research addresses fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and cancer biology. Collaborations have been established with clinical departments for studies that investigate various diseases including neurological diseases (stroke, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, and Guillain-Barre syndrome); psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and autism); degenerative diseases (osteoporosis); cancer; and endocrinological disorders.Job Summary
A position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory or clinical research setting. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Perform a variety of experimental studies including electrophysiology, cell biology and molecular biology experiments. Experiments may include but not be limited to performing animal surgery, genotyping, western blot, ELISA, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, collection and dissection of taste tissue.
Analyze results of experiments and procedures using confocal and brightfield image analyses and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
Maintain and update spreadsheets documenting results.
Maintains breeding colonies, performs treatments for colitis models and cytokine knockdown, and genotyping on transgenic mice for ACE2 models, conditional and global cytokine knockouts.
Manages continuous operation of the research laboratory, orders supplies and animals as necessary, keeps track of costs, expenses and delivered.
Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
Operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.Required Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience. OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience; or major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Pay Grade: R16
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
