Job Summary

Nanobiotechnogy and Molecular Engineering Research Group of Augusta University is looking for a post-doctoral research associate who has the courage to undertake interdisciplinary research. Candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing research projects, writing proposals and advising graduate and undergraduate students in the group. A strong background in Molecular Biology and Chemistry is a must. The candidate should be comfortable working with variety of nanomaterials, their characterization techniques and assays to test their toxicity. In addition, previous experience with the biological/biomedical applications of Raman Spectroscopy (RS) and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) is highly desired.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

PROJECT PLANNING AND RESEARCH: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical and/or radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and micro-serological, histologic and cell culture procedures. Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally. Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others. Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities. Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

A strong background in Molecular Biology is a must.. Previous experience with the biological/biomedical applications of Raman Spectroscopy (RS) and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) is higly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Basic competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and EndNote or willingness to learn.

SKILLS

Good oral and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.

ABILITY
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines. Willingness and ability to work with research animals.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday-Friday
Salary: $45,000/year
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
