The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support, supervise students when participating in lab activities. Ensure proper safety guidance. Provide enhanced learning experience and additional instructional support for students as they practice work-based learning in a controlled environment.

Operate and maintain lab areas that support the Sustainable Urban Agriculture certificate and A.A.S. degree. Provide instructional support for students.Maintain the gardens throughout the season including monitoring for pest invasions, weeding, watering, and harvesting of crops. In the off-season, maintain indoor crops and hydroponically grown produceMaintain safe, clean and organized environmentOutreach within COD to promote awareness of the gardens as an educational and service learning site, and involving faculty and staff in activities and projectsOutreach to the community at large. Maintain close contact with the Peoples Resource Center staff; work with agency staff to plan and implement special events; recruit volunteers from local organizations, schools, etc.; generate publicity and media coverage to publicize the garden; and maintain contact with other regional organic growers.Plan and harvest crops grown in farm, hi-tunnel, and greenhouse; distribute harvest to Fuel Pantry and or other organizations that support the CommunityConduct tours of the greenhouse and relevant sustainable lab areasOperate equipment such as dingo, skid steer, tillers, mowerOther related duties as assigned


  • Education
    • High School diploma required.
    • Sustainable Urban Agriculture certificate or related Associates degree preferred.
    • Pesticide license is required or must be obtained within nine months of hire date.
  • Experience
    • Two years of experience related to agriculture or equivalent combination of experience and education required.

Mower, blower, edger, saws, compactor, stone cutter, gardening tools, computer, FAX, cash register and motorized vehicles.Proficient in Dynascape and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Must have valid Illinois driver's license.Phone skills necessary.Hours may vary. Occasional weekend and evening work required.May require heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.Use of ladders.On your feet 80% of the day.Working outside in heat and cold.Deliveries and pick-ups on and off campus.This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Pay Grade:
Classified 10 Hourly

Competitive starting salaries are dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers a generous benefits plan.
