The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine ‘Lynn' Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

The Director of Scientific Communication will develop and review all scientific content for the Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) via the management of a communications team. The Director will communicate scientific and administrative material to faculty members, postdoctoral scientists, and graduate students within the IMMCG. The Director will also liaison with faculty, staff, and students from other departments at the Medical College of Georgia and act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders. The Director will ensure that funding applications, special journal issues, and book chapters derived from IMMCG material are submitted correctly and on time. Finally, the Director will produce content for the public that highlights the personnel and findings of the IMMCG.
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Create, manage, edit, and update the public face of IMMCG; Draft press releases of scientific findings; Provide, manage, and update the IMMCG website; Solicit and edit scientific content from each faculty member for the IMMCG website; Update web site monthly; Science, Twitter, Facebook and other social media
Organize search committees; Be liaison for visits; Organize faculty meetings; Organize scientific meetings
Communication with Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students
Organize an internal IMMCG seminar series; Keep CVs of faculty on file, edit, and update; Liaison with the Dean of the Graduate School to promote the IMMCG to prospective graduate students
Contacting Funding Agencies
Support multi-PI grants for funding from both private and public funding agencies; Maintain up-to-date biosketches and resource pages for key IMMCG personnel; Edit biosketches and resource pages for specific purposes; Track solicitations and RFAs from the NIAID, NHLBI, NIH Director(s); Seek funding opportunities from foundations and communicate with foundation leadership
Manuscript and Book Editing
Organize books related to research topics covered by the IMMCG; Produce and edit tables of content; Ensure all chapters and graphics are delivered on time; Edit book material for grammar and scientific accuracy; Draft book forewords
Organize Special Scientific Issues For Journals
Solicit and screen potential contributors; Keep all manuscript submissions on time; Edit manuscript contributions as needed
Networking with Other Immunologist
Manage networking activities for the IMMCG; Represent the IMMCG at scientific conferences; Quality-control abstract submissions from IMMCG faculty and graduate students; Coordinate Augusta U group meetings at national conferences; Track special solicitations and RFAs; Prepare packages for award nominations; Solicit faculty candidates from other immunology departments and institutes; Work with other administrators and faculty liaison to organize external seminars
Perform other related duties as assigned
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university plus one year of supervisory experience OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years supervisory experience OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years supervisory experience.

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Grade: 23
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
