FIELD INSTRUCTOR/MANAGER
FACULTY OF SOCIAL WORK, UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA
INSTRUCTOR and FIELD EDUCATIONMANAGER
(Position # 32731)

The Faculty of Social Work of the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time Instructor and Field Education Manager (position #32731) in a probationary appointment at the rank of Instructor I, II, or Senior Instructor. The position will be under the supervision of the Dean. The position will commence on January 1st, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.  The salary and rank for the position will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Supervision: The Field Education Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Faculty of Social Work Field Education program (Fort Garry, Inner City, Thompson, and Distance). This includes supervision of the performance of Field Coordinators at each site to ensure coordination among various field program sites; supervision and programmatic support to Field Coordinators and Liaisons, provides regular reporting of Field Education activities to the Faculty Council; and supports interprofessional education and other University initiatives. The position meets regularly with Field Coordinators to develop, standardize, and implement field instruction evaluation instruments, ensures that Field Education policies follow current and future accreditation standards; completes ongoing evaluation and enhancement of all handbooks and manuals to meet University regulations and best practices in field education. The position also provides leadership in strategic planning and development, and adherence to program and university policies and provincial, and national accreditation standards. Leadership is also provided to ensure that all field sites maintain culturally responsive and respectful engagement with students of diverse educational, gender diverse, ability, age, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and to promote the development of practice opportunities that remove barriers for Indigenous students to complete their placements in their own communities.

Teaching: Instructs the Integrative Practice Seminars; Serves as course lead for SWRK 3152 PLAR; Oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of the following social work field courses: SWRK 3220 Integrative Practice Seminar (new BSW curriculum), SWRK 4240 Integrative Practice Seminar (the new BSW curriculum), SWRK 3150 Field Instruction 1, SWRK 4120 Field Instruction 2 and SWRK 7180 Advanced Field Placement and SWRK 7190 Integrated Seminar (MSW Programs). Collaborates, develops and delivers Field Education awareness for the community and evaluates educational and awareness programs, such as the Field Instructor modules. Maintains and updates professional skills, certification, management skills and knowledge base through continuing education programs, literature reviews, publications, and presentations. Maintains knowledge of new developments in clinical areas through journal reviews, interest groups, lectures, committee work; and encourages and facilitates staff participation in relevant education programs, i.e., workshops, courses, conferences. Serves as the main liaison for provincial and national field education bodies, such as CASWE, CASW, MCSW, and other relevant organizations; Represents or ensures representation of the Field Education program on specific committees, task forces and/or working groups; Encourages and supports staff to participate on various committees as requested; Chairs Field Advisory Committee; Participates in the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization Committee.

 

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications: Master of Social Work (MSW) from a Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE-ACFTS) accredited school/faculty, or the approved equivalent if internationally educated. Minimum of 10 years practicing social work and five years in social work administration, experience in social work field education, knowledge and engagement with community agency services in the Province of Manitoba is necessary. Experience in program development, management and evaluation, and fiscal and human resource management is highly desirable.  Must have knowledge of accreditation, legislation, provincial and national social work regulations.

Experience with teaching, adult learning, and curricula design is needed. Registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW) is recommended. Membership with CASWE-ACFTS is an asset. Understanding of anti-oppressive and ecological approaches in social work; Knowledge of Equity. Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization principles and experience supporting and implementing reconciliation: Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary, multilocation team; Demonstrated leadership abilities, effective written and verbal communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills; possesses good organization skills.
