Job Description

I. JOB SUMMARY:

The Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to assume the role of Assistant/Associate Dean. This individual will assist the Dean with all matters of academic concern, providing leadership and fostering collaboration, cooperation, and respect among all nursing faculty to ensure curricula are current and consistently delivered in a manner that achieves superior student outcomes while promoting the mission of the School and College.

II. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

Assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the School of Nursing. Collaborates with Dean on executing college strategic initiatives and supports school?s fundraising efforts. Provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a strong, supportive and collaborative relationship with college administrators, faculty, staff, and students to facilitate a humanistic and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing as well as D?Youville
  • Aid the Dean as liaison with department chairs and program coordinators, and schedule/coordinate meetings with them as well as faculty in general
  • Support shared governance with regards to the development of school policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and act as an administrative coordinator for same with faculty and staff
  • Assist with student registration, scheduling, orientation and/or scholarship or honors programs
  • Coordinate the work of the Dean?s office personnel as related to school/college policy and faculty concerns
  • Help to manage the nursing budgets with a focus on strong fiscal discipline and allotment of resources, soliciting feedback from the school of nursing team
  • Maintain alignment of all academic initiatives with the institution?s strategic plan in collaboration with the Dean and senior leadership team
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of written documents such as reviews, reports, curriculum, course proposals, catalogs and bulletins, according to USNH policies and procedures
  • Represent the Dean on various campus committees and outside organizations
  • Act as resource person for students and parents, and provide counsel in problem areas
  • Conduct research and be responsible for special programs or projects as assigned
  • Serve as the primary administrator for all departmental administrative duties, attending meetings and conferences in the absence of the Dean
  • Partake in faculty and staff recruitment and selection, as well as conduct onboarding, evaluation and supervision of qualified candidates for the nursing program
  • Function as a role model and mentor to faculty and students in areas of academic excellence, customer service, collaboration, communication and professionalism
  • Participate in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum committees to ensure continuity of program outcomes
  • Assist faculty and the clinical liaisons for clinical placement of nursing students to meet program objectives
  • Communicate with academic committees to ensure that appropriate goals and projects are implemented
  • Monitor student success, including student retention, graduation rates and NCLEX pass rates.
  • Collect and analyze data for the Dean, in preparation for accreditation, curricular, and other academic decisions
  • Ensure all accreditation regulations are met/exceeded for maintaining full compliance in all nursing programs across the School and those related to institutional accreditation and compliance
  • Orient, mentor, and train Program Directors and Departmental Chairpersons, providing needed support to newly appointed personnel
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of new nursing faculty, nursing administrators, and nursing support staff
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
