SCHOOL OF FASHION AND TEXTILES
School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) of PolyU has been a pioneer of fashion education and research for Hong Kong since 1957. In recognition of the Institute's growing reputation as a world-class fashion school, it became an independent School of Fashion and Textiles in 2022.
SFT is equipped with the state-of-art teaching and research facilities, which in return facilitate the first class teaching and research activities. SFT is proud to have over 50 world-class faculty members from different countries and regions around the world, whose expertise ranges from design, business, to technology, and who are dedicated to high quality teaching and high impact research. They publish widely in leading academic and industry journals, gaining international recognition for the quality of the research they have conducted. According to a report by Stanford University in 2021, thirteen SFT scholars were ranked among top 2% of scientists in the world.

Assistant Professor in Fashion Design / Knitwear Design / Contour Design (two posts) (Ref. 221026012)
Duties
The appointees will be required to:
(a) teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels and supervise research students;
(b) initiate, lead and participate in research, consultancy and other scholarly activities leading to publications in refereed journals and/or exhibitions, as well as awards of research grants; and
(c) undertake academic and departmental administrative duties.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a PhD degree in Fashion Design/Knitwear Design/Contour Design or a relevant discipline;
(b) sound knowledge of university teaching and/or research/industrial experience in fashion design (fashion sketches, garment prototyping, 3D printing techniques, digital printing, etc.); or knitwear design (yarn for knitting, knitted structure, knitwear production, technical skills of computer design software, etc.); or contour design (creative design, fitting and technical development of lingerie, swimwear, structured bodywear, activewear, etc.);
(c) solid research and publication record in high quality scholarly journals, as well as good potential in bidding for research grants and establishing significant externally funded research programmes;
(d) strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; and
(e) excellent communication skills and be able to use English as the medium of instruction.
Candidates should submit their fashion design portfolios including copies of ten samples of their artwork in digital format with a brief description of the artwork together with the completed application.
Preference will be given to those with strong research orientation, potential to publish in high quality scholarly journals and/or exhibitions and a good teaching record.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
