SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Political Science department, a four-member department with a strong teaching and publication tradition, is announcing a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. The political science faculty at Whitworth has a common interest in justice and reconciliation—both international and domestic. We are looking for a candidate who will add to our strength in that area.
STARTING DATE: Fall 2020
PRIMARY TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:
Teach an annual seven-course load with a primary focus on International Relations. Ability to teach in our interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program is required. The ability to teach in the Peace Studies program is strongly preferred; ability to teach in a regional area that complements current department offerings is also welcomed. The full-time teaching load consists of three courses in the fall, three courses in the spring and a course in January-term. The position is open at the assistant level; however, in an exceptional circumstance a candidate could be hired at the associate level. Whitworth has well-established off-campus study programs and the department welcomes applications from candidates eager to participate in these.
Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental activities and governance; professional and research activities, attending state, regional and national professional association meetings; attending faculty assemblies, development days, and retreat, serving on committees and advising.
PREFERRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or ABD in political science
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
