Job Description

The Departments of Environmental Studies and Political Science at The College of Wooster seek to fill a tenure track position in Global Environmental Justice at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in the fall of 2020. We are looking for a broadly trained specialist in environmental politics and social justice with area studies expertise and a high proficiency in qualitative methodologies.

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses and advise research projects in environmental justice and social justice, broadly conceived. They would teach introductory and advanced courses in the Environmental Studies and Political Science departments, supervise independent research projects as part of the College’s Independent Study requirement, and participate in teaching the College’s First Year Seminar.

We seek to hire a scholar whose research and teaching addresses one or more dimensions of environmental justice, such as: the intersections of global climate change and class, ethnic, or racial inequalities; comparative environmental movements; forced displacement and migration due to environmental crisis; food or water insecurity; or environmental governance.

In addition, we are interested in candidates whose research and teaching can connect with one or more interdisciplinary programs at The College of Wooster such as Africana Studies, Global & International Studies, East Asian Studies, South Asian Studies, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, Urban Studies, or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); applicants should have experience with diverse student populations.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

We prefer candidates who will have completed their Ph.D. by the time of appointment and who have had previous independent teaching experience.
