Job Description

The Forensic Science Program in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto Mississauga, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Forensic Epistemology at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a specialization intersecting philosophy, psychology, ethics, law, and criminology, to commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Philosophy specializing in the Philosophy of Science, Value Theory, and/or Applied Ethics as they relate to theories and practices in Forensic Science. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research that incorporates an epistemological approach to forensic practices and theories. Required areas of forensic focus include Forensic Psychology, Forensic Psychopathology, and Forensic Ethics. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals as appropriate for stage of career, equivalent peer-reviewed venues, research in progress that targets such publication venues, presentations at significant disciplinary conferences; grants or awards as appropriate for stage of career; and strong endorsements by referees of international stature. Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments; strong letters of reference; teaching evaluations; and a teaching statement that outlines teaching philosophy and future teaching plans.

The successful applicant must have a proven record of professional forensic-related activities such as research and research network activities within the forensic community, publications, presentations, projects, mentoring, etc. Experience working with forensic experts to address theoretical and practical issues is required. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement our existing strengths in the Forensic Science Program.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an active, innovative, externally funded program of research and to contribute to the education and training of undergraduate students as well as graduate students enrolled in the tri-campus University of Toronto Graduate Program. The successful candidate’s primary graduate appointment will be in Anthropology, with a possible non-budgetary cross-appointment to other relevant Departments.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
