The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a dynamic faculty colleague in Studio Art for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the Painting/Drawing/Printmaking area. We are searching for an artist whose work pushes the boundaries of painting. Of particular interest are artists exploring overlapping disciplines as they relate to painting and drawing – and of special interest are those integrating new technologies into their practice. The appointment begins August of 2023.

Applicants must have an active exhibition record indicating clear potential in the field. They should hold an MFA, and at minimum, have some prior college level teaching experience. The successful candidate will teach 5 courses each year (2½ per semester) – a selection of courses ranging from freshmen to senior classes and including active participation in our interdisciplinary graduate program. The candidate is expected to have an ambitious studio practice with a strong commitment to developing a national and international exhibition record. The Sam Fox School supports faculty research via project funding, travel funding and grant writing support from our Office for Research and Innovation.

Our new colleague will share responsibilities in academic advising, recruiting, committee work and curriculum development. We seek diverse and enthusiastic candidates with wide ranging intellectual and creative interests to complement and build upon our program’s existing strengths. Salary for the position is commensurate with experience.

We encourage women and artists of color to submit applications. Diversity and inclusion are core values at Washington University; the Sam Fox School strives to increase diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in our community. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to nurture an inclusive learning and work environment where a diverse array of students can learn and thrive. Candidates interested in benefiting from and contributing to a committed and collegial environment are encouraged to apply.  Washington University is committed to the principles and practices of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
