Graphic Design Specialist Overview

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Unit: Communications & Marketing


The individual will create content and provide consultation in support of D’Youville’s programs and departments, including but not limited to ads, factbooks, social media, digital displays, billboards, reports, event invitations, etc.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of University Marketing, Graphic Design Specialist will provide support for institutional marketing and communications functions. The position will perform professional graphic design and artwork for camera ready printed and digital material for the institution. Individual should also be comfortable cross training the marketing and communications team in graphic design tools and techniques.

Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of computer graphic design techniques; design software.


Conceptualizing ideas and translating into camera-ready copy or digitally equivalent pre-press work via computer and traditional methods; creating design proofs for customers to approve; advising customers on publication design, artwork, multimedia projects, costs, and completion time.

*Experience & Knowledge of Adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) are required. *

  • Knowledge of promotion and marketing concepts
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods
  • Ability to convey information effectively
  • Essential Functions
  • Confers with and advises clients on graphic design and multimedia projects; creates design concepts and makes recommendations to clients; determines format, layout, art work, photography, paper type, colors, typeface, typesetting specifications, ink selections, size, and finish; estimates project costs and production times; creates illustrations, digital output, line drawings, sketches, and related artwork; performs digital imposition; coordinates printing; utilizes graphic design software in developing marketing/information materials.
  • May perform web design.
  • May provide training and work direction.
  • Capture and process photos of campus events, programs, and ceremonies.
  • Assist the Brand Management Director with web updates, utilizing new graphics and visuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment

We utilize open office concepts with ergonomic sit-to-stand desks allowing for you to develop and complete your task while also working collaboratively as a team. D’Youville is currently functioning with a 32-hour workweek, so employees are asked to stagger their shifts across four business days.
