Position Description

Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

Coordinate and oversee medical research and scholarly activity within the Department of Psychology.  Conduct research studies in the areas of: 1) substance use disorders and the treatment and intervention for people with substance abuse disorders; 2) general psychiatric care approaches based upon methodical reviews of current practices and the identification of novel, more effective care methods; and 3) the continuous improvement of educational and professional development in the psychology profession. Provide didactics (theoretical and practical studies) and supervision on research techniques and methodology for Medical Resident and Student research projects. Assist Medical Residents with journal club and research study presentations. Review literature in field of psychiatry. Prepare protocols and grant applications, to include proposals for research grants and outside funding. Handle institutional review board proposals and compliance and study closures. Coordinate collaborative, multi-departmental research projects. Collect data and engage in statistical analyses. Develop instruments and curriculum. Writing and assisting Medical Residents and Students in preparing manuscripts for journal publication. Keep current with relevant research grants. Report to Department management on status of research projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
 

Preferred Qualifications

M.D. or equivalent and 3 years of experience as a Psychiatry Resident.

Pay Statement
