Job Description

The Bursar is an integral part of the University Business Office team, working collaboratively with the Accounting, Treasury, Financial Aid and Registrar functions to provide accurate and timely billing of student accounts, management of student loan programs, and cash collection services for the campus.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the overall operations of student financial services, billing and receivables, and cashiering functions of the university.
  • Contributes to the development and monitoring of fiscal policies; ensures compliance with university, state, and federal regulations related to student billing and collection
  • Provides periodic reports of receipts and receivables to the accounting team
  • Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
  • Encourages customer-oriented staff interaction with students, parents, and administrators.
  • Interacts with internal and external auditors, participates in auditing projects, or provides information and access to accounting records as required.
  • Directs the implementation, administration, and recordkeeping of student loan programs.
  • Oversees, supervises, mentors and develops staff assigned to the Bursar’s office
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors or higher degree in a business field or higher education leadership
  • 3 years experience in higher education, preferably in a bursar function
