General Position Description:
Coordinates and manages the operations of a laboratory for the Dental Hygiene area in direct support of the instructional program. This position may provide instructional assistance to students and faculty.

Salary Range: $36,754 to $44,105 Per Year

Essential Job Functions:
1. Plan, develop, organize and coordinate activities to support implementation and set up of specified instructional programs and labs. Coordinate and participate in the set-up of laboratory materials, equipment and other applicable items in support of lab exercises.  
2. Hire, schedule, evaluate and supervise full-time and Staff Instructional assistants, student lab assistants and aides as needed. Approve time sheet for payroll processing. 
3. Organize the cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of the laboratory facilities; maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials and reorder as needed; and schedule necessary laboratory equipment repairs. Recommend equipment purchases as needed. 
4. Ensure lab safety, security and waste disposal procedures are adhered to.
5. Maintain and track laboratory expenditures against the budget.

6. May attend departmental and instructional meetings; organizes and attends special events campus wide.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a combination of education and experience may be substitutable.

Required License/Certification:
National and/or state license, registration or certification in specific career field, depending on academic discipline in which work is performed.

Possess certain registrations, licenses or certifications (i.e., CPR, First Aid, Allied Health, Registered Nurse, Registered Dental Hygienist, Microsoft Office applications, Apple, hazardous waste disposal), or possess proof of training in areas relevant to subject matter to which assigned.

General Working Conditions:
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.

Job Specific Working Conditions:
Will also operate in a lab setting and may use standard lab equipment such as beakers, test tubes, flasks, thermometers. Occasionally the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) clothing and protective equipment such as masks, glasses and gloves. May prepare materials needed to conduct a laboratory demonstration and may need to detect and distinguish samples for lab tests.

Must be able to travel locally on a flexible schedule, as needed. Must have reliable transportation, and proof of liability and property damage insurance on the vehicle used may be required.
