The Department of Pathology is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time faculty position, at 26% time, in Coagulation Medicine/Laboratory Medicine. Faculty rank and track will be determined according to the qualifications and interest of the candidate. This position will have responsibilities as the Director of University Hospital's Coagulation Laboratory including active involvement initial sign out of coagulation cases and review final sign out with the medical doctor. The candidate selected for this position will be involved in the development of testing, protocols and procedures as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. Additional responsibilities will include co-directing the Coagulation and Special Coagulation- pathology resident and fellow rotation and assist in directing the residents and fellows in quality assurance and quality improvement in Laboratory Medicine and Transfusion Medicine. The applicant will service on SOM and hospital committees, including the hospital antithrombosis committee and the Hemophilia committee. The University of New Mexico Hospital, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, specializes in trauma, burns, high-risk obstetrics, cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, autologous stem cell transplantation and neonatal intensive care. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the mission of the division of Laboratory Medicine in quality assurance and outreach activities. Teaching and mentoring responsibilities include transfusion medicine and hematopathology fellows, pathology residents, medical students and CLS students, as well as other fellows, residents, medical students, and technologists. The successful applicant will work in cooperation with TriCore Reference Laboratories, a nonprofit organization sponsored by University Hospital and Presbyterian Medical Services, in providing medical oversight for the coagulation operations. TriCore is one of the largest clinical laboratories in the United States (www.tricore.org).
