Job Description

Shepherd University, established 1871, is a state-supported institution located in the Shenandoah Valley and on the banks of the Potomac River in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The oldest town in the state, Shepherdstown is a quaint and thriving university town connected to a larger, vibrant business and cultural community. The campus combines with the greater community to offer unique learning-living opportunities. Shepherdstown is across the river from Maryland, a quick 20 miles from Pennsylvania and Virginia, and only 65 miles from the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.

Shepherd University seeks qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty appointment in a medical/surgical and/or Advanced Practice nursing specialty at the undergraduate level. Having Advance Practice credentials are desirable and would allow the candidate to teach across the curriculum in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. As a member of the faculty, the appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching, service and scholarship and support the vision "to enhance the health status of the world by educating professional nurses for practice in a rapidly changing health care environment."

The faculty member will participate in courses and program development, implementation and evaluation. The faculty member may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning/on-line mode and expected to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Specific assignments are dependent upon departmental needs. Additional faculty responsibilities include student advisement, participation on and chairing department committees and engagement in university service activities at all levels.

An earned doctorate in nursing or a related field (progress in a doctorate program considered) in addition to a master's degree in nursing and an unencumbered license to practice nursing in West Virginia and/or multistate license are required for nurse faculty. Having an Advanced Practice certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner is highly desirable. Recent experience in caring for patients in acute care and community settings specifically at the entry into practice level.

Recent teaching experience in a baccalaureate or higher degree program
