Summary:

The Sport Management Program is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor position with the ability to teach a variety of introductory and upper-level sport management courses within the major and minor.  The qualified applicant would also be the Program Director for Sport Management within the Department of Health and Fitness Studies. An advanced degree is required. Primary responsibilities include: teaching at the undergraduate level, course evaluation, program assessment, assisting the chair in ongoing program development, serving on committees, advising students, and providing professional service to the department, college, and community-at-large.  A passion for excellence with gentleness, a commitment to diversity, collaboration and innovation, and positive energy are fundamental to this position.  This position includes teaching, scholarship, and service.  Rank commensurate with previous teaching experience, past scholarly achievement, and service.   

Responsibilities Include:  

  • Teach undergraduate level sport management courses 
  • Assist Chair in developing affiliation agreements and internships 
  • Assist in ongoing program development and promotion 
  • Participate in departmental and university assessment of courses 
  • Complete program assessment annually 
  • Assist with ongoing COSMA accreditation   
  • Academic advisement of undergraduate students 
  • Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline such as publishing, presenting at national, regional, and local conferences, conducting research and/or grant writing and related activities. 
  • Complete all roles and responsibilities associated with a faculty appointment, including teaching, scholarship and service to the Department, Programs, School, and Institution. 
  • Other duties as assigned 
Additional Information

Qualified Candidates Must Possess:  

  • An advanced degree in sport management or related field, doctoral degree preferred 
  • Three years of college or university teaching experience  
  • Program leadership, development and/or accreditation experience a plus 
  • Excellent organizational abilities 
  • Record of innovation, leadership, and application of best practices in sport management education as well as contributions to the field through scholarship 
  • Demonstrated evidence of the use of instructional technology 
  • Ability to uphold the university's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.  
  • May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.  
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time in classroom/instructional space 
  • Ability to move from building to building and maneuver instructional supplies
