The University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Information Systems and Cyber Security invites applicants for a fixed term track position (rank: Assistant Professor of Practice) beginning Fall 2022 or Spring 2023, with a primary focus on project management.

This position aims to fulfill the need to support numerous programs that leverage the rich inventory of project management courses in the Department of Information Systems & Cyber Security. Such courses cover agile and traditional project management from a variety of perspectives, both introductory and advanced topics, and project management certification. They support a variety of programs, including the MS Management of Technology, MS in Information Technology, MS in Biomedical Technology Commercialization, MS in Business, our MBA program, our BBA degrees in Information Systems and Cyber Security, and graduate certificates in Project Management and Technology Entrepreneurship & Management. These programs span and collaborate with the College of Business, College of Science, College of Engineering and Integrated Design, and the School of Data Science. This position will enhance the student experience in project management through a balance of carefully curated academic pedagogy, practical professional education, and various experiential learning opportunities. This focus on student experiential learning aligns with the college goals to develop graduates with critical marketable skills as well as more opportunities for undergraduate research pursuits.

Hours per Week
Exempt; Faculty Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
The faculty member hired for this position will teach 3-4 classes per fall/spring semester, with course load governed by instructional need and service commitments. The faculty member hired will play an important leadership role in our project management program, serving in the following capacities:
  • organize PM course offerings;
  • serve as the course coordinator for project management courses;
  • promote project management programs and course offerings especially in support of the graduate certificate in project management and the undergraduate marketable skills course;
  • serve as PM representative on faculty committees for programs that include project management courses (e.g. MSB); and
  • establish and support relationships with external partners including the Alamo chapter of the Program Management Institute
Required Qualifications
  1. Hold and maintain a current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  2. Have a Masters degree in Project Management, Technology Management, Engineering Management, Business, or a closely related area from an accredited university
  3. Demonstrable expertise in the integrated perspective of the project management discipline
  4. A demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate, masters, or Ph.D. levels in project management.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  6. The ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and students from diverse cultural backgrounds while supporting the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success, especially with historically underrepresented students.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related field is highly preferred
  2. Research publications or demonstrable research acumen in Project Management
Working Conditions
On Campus: Primary work location will be on campus, but the person may be assigned to teach both in-person and online courses.
