Position Summary

Austin Peay State University invites applications for a STEM Librarian at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Director of Library Services. The successful candidate will be a member of the core library instruction team and serve as the liaison to departments in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), including Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, Geosciences, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics, Engineering & Astronomy. The STEM Librarian supports researchers and students investigating and solving complex problems through science, technology, engineering, and data science. The incumbent develops an understanding of research and teaching in their assigned departments, follows trends in those disciplines, and builds relationships with faculty and students through active engagement and outreach-providing virtual and in-person research assistance and consultations, developing and delivering course-related library instruction, creating instructional materials in a variety of formats, conducting assessments of user needs, advocating data and information literacy, and promoting library resources and services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide information literacy instruction for general education and liaison areas.
  • Collaborate with faculty in liaison areas to support teaching, learning, and research.
  • Provide traditional and electronic general reference services.
  • Serve as an embedded librarian and provide specialized research assistance in liaison areas.
  • Lead and coordinate collection development activities for liaison areas.
  • Promote library services and collections through outreach activities to liaison areas.
  • Create and maintain relevant instructional materials and content using LibGuides.
  • Contribute to library planning, goal setting, decision making, project management, and assessment.
  • Participate in professional service and scholarly/creative activities required for tenure and promotion.

  • Evidence of potential to meet requirements for faculty tenure and promotion.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree accredited by the American Library Association, or international equivalent.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a life or physical science discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide information literacy instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Strong interest in and enthusiasm for the provision of reference services, instruction, and outreach.
  • Beneficial to position: reference, instruction, and/or collection development experience in higher education; development of instructional materials using LibGuides; familiarity with a course management system such as D2L.
